It seems wherever you are in the world, there are people doing fun, crazy challenges on vintage scooters, whether it’s riding from Johannesburg to Durban in SA, Riding Australia from top to toe, or riding 1000 miles from Aukland to the tip of the North Island, and back, over four days. There’s a fair crowd up for it, with team names like The Unpredictables, Team Hungry Snake, The Sons of Anchovy, The Pogans, Team ARSCRAC, and Team Anal Thunder… you might get an idea of the spirit of the event. Entry is open to classic, geared scooters only, and by my count there are twenty or so Lambrettas making the trip, so good luck, and big respect to all the participants, even those on Vespas. And Belladonnas… whatever they are!
Find out more on the Mille Miglia webpage, or their Facebook page, here.
Thanks to Phil from the Cambridge Lambretta Club for the heads up.
I’d like a Mille Miglia in the original country in Mille Miglia car race…, starting from the original car race town, Brescia, to Rome and back to Brescia again.

That would be the ultimate scooter ride… you’d get enthusiasts from all over the world participating in that!

Here’s a link to my video from the NZ Mille Miglia 2014 (now renamed as the Motoretta Tourist Trophy – due to copyright reasons they can’t use Mille Miglia any more). May not be viewable in some countries due to music copyright issues;

Thanks Thorton, sorry I have taken so long to respond, I’ve had a ton of stuff going down, and the blog has taken a bit of a back seat. Appreciate you getting in touch with this. All the best, Jock

Sorry for being so rude in replying to your email so late, it somehow got sorted into “spam”. Bloody legal / copyright stuff; can’t they see that A) It’s a bit of fun, and B) It probably builds the Mille Miglia “brand” anyway. The new name is good too though! Video is great – I’ll stick it up as a separate post later this week if I get 2 minutes!
Is there a date for this years event, I’m happy to flag it up.
cheers, and thanks again for sending this through. Jock

Different route, different part of the country but otherwise much the same.
