Tartan Terror

To mark the recent Burn’s Night celebrations, I thought I’d post this terrific tartan bedecked Series 1, that’s for sale over on eBay. The eBay description is as follows:

“1959 Series 1 Lambretta in outstanding condition.

Rare crossover model which for even more interesting pedigree, Framebreather frame loop on a non-breather frame, as confirmed by several sources to be fully authentic Framebreather end production run crossover.

She has a small block 200 top end and rides amazingly, plenty of get up and go and handles like a dream.

New BGM tyres & tubes make for perfect all round handling and ride.”

Personally, it’s the decals that make this scooter – I don’t know if it’s actually been to Pisa, Rome, Amsterdam, Innsbruck and the other one that I can’t work out – but I wouldn’t be surprised!

Racing C

Lambrettas were modified for sporting use – almost from day one. There are a few Racing D models out there – I featured this stunner from Dan from Switzerland a while back.

Now, Racing D’s are pretty rare – but as you go back through the alphabet, the models get even rarer. The one featured here is 1951 Lambretta Model C 125 Racer – finished in the classic racing red!

She has all the bits you’d expect to see, such as:

  • Metal endurance petrol tank
  • Dropped handle bars trimmed down legshields
  • extended racing seat
  • Rear sets modified rear brake to suit both riding positions
  • Vortex head
  • Bellmouth carb

A lovely piece of Lambretta racing history which has been “ridden in anger” many times, this scooter has featured in Italian magazines.  It’s being sold by Parrspeed Scooters – a long established Lambretta specialist based in Chorley, Lancashire. They purchased the scooter from a private collector in Italy who had owned and raced her for many years. The scooter is now UK registered and comes with a new UK V5.

It’s for sale on eBay for a fiver under £6,500 here – which, with Lambretta prices the way they are, seems a pretty good deal for something so unique.

GT200 on eBay

These don’t come up too often. An original, British registered from mew 1964 Lambretta TV200 (known to all as the “GT”) with it’s original reg number. The scoot was restored in 2010, and featured in Scootering Magazine March 2012.

The scooter features many period correct accessories – a Nannuci ledshield toolbox, Metalplast candy legshield beading, a Pegasus seat. Under the panels, in the genuine GT200 Engine it’s running a Mugello 225 kit with the barrel ported by JB Tuning. It’s gt a 12v Electronic Ignition, with replacement regulator hidden from view in the toolbox – a nice touch! It’s on eBay Here for £12,750.

Honda Motocampo

Spotted one of my favourite 1980’s oddballs – the fantastic little Honda Motocampo on eBay – originally sold as an option for Honda City car (see Madness advert below) these little 50cc bikes fold up to fit into your car boot. I think they still look pretty cool – and are a perfect example of innovative 1980’s industrial design. It’s on eBay for £2995 here.

Incidentally, dedicated Madness fans may recognise the Motocampo from the band’s foray into Japanes advertising… the first time I saw one!

The Million Pound Lambretta Sale!

MillionPoundCollection_1Came across a ONE MILLION POUND eBay listing for a bunch of Lambrettas – not much more information to share at the moment, but I’m on the case, and I’ll post more when I know more. Ok, Bit of an update; the seller has given me a bit more information. This is part of a new shipment coming over from Italy next week, all 100% Italian, original condition, standard machines. The collection includes some very desirable items, so if you’re in the market for an original spec Italian Lambretta, in exceptional original condition, stay tuned!

Rare ‘Indian Papoose’ Parachute Scooter

Indian-Papoose-HeroSpotted this rarity on eBay – a Genuine 1954 Indian Papoose Brockhouse Corgi. Now, I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know anything about these scoots… but there’s a little bit of history below…

The Indian Papoose started out life in 1942 to be used during the 2nd world war known as the Wellbike, then was redesigned named Corgi under the creative ingenuity of John Dolphin, changing the engine to an Excelsior Spryt, built under licence by Brockhouse Engineering Southport Ltd.

Brockhouse was invested in the Indian company and began to re-badge the Corgi with the Indian Papoose decals along with re-painting the little folding motorcycle identifiable with the Indian Colors to market the Papoose as an Indian in the United States in 1948. Around 28,000 of the folding motorcycles where sold from 1948 to October 1954.

This is a ‘super rare’ scooter for collectors – and I’ve got to say, I’ve never seen one before! on eBay for a Classified Ad Price of £5,989.00

Another collection of oddballs

It’s been a while since I posted a collection of ‘oddballs’ (here are the last lot). So here goes, to be clear, the term oddball is not pejorative – these are scooters that just aren’t  Lambrettas and Vespas – or clones of them!

BM-Pokerino-0219-1First off is this BM Pokerino from 1963. BM, or Bonvicini Marini were an Italian motorcycle manufacturer founded in Bologna in 1952. An ‘ace’ looking little scooter, but, I must say my favourite part about is the poker hand badge – so if you’re feeling ‘flush’ (see what I did there) you can get hold of the Pokerino for a classified price of £1,895. It looks to be in great original condition.

Next up is a second 50cc classic – a straight-looking Zundapp RS 50 – another good looking little scooter. Yours for a grand.

One more ‘nifty fifty’ before I get to the big guns

… a Garelli Como – and I’m always a little unsure about classifying these larger wheeled bikes as ‘scooters’. Yep, it’s got the scooter style bodywork, but with those big wheels it’s more moped than scooter, right? While looking a little ungainly, the Garelli just about manages to pull off the ‘moped in disguise’ thing. I think. Anyway, it’s nearly twice the price of the Zundapp,at £1,995.

Next up is another scooter I don’t think I’ve seen before – A Jawa Tatran. Jawa – a long established Czech motorcycle marque – got in on the scooter gravy train just like everybody else. And they made a decent job of it by the look of things. This one has had a full resto job done on eBay for the same price as the Garelli, £1,999 – probably the better buy?

Finally, and did I save the best to last? Maybe.BSA-Sunbeam-02191

A great looking BSA Sunbeam. Look familiar? Well, the Sunbeam is basically a ‘badge engineered’ Triumph Tigress. One of my favourite British scooters, there’s no denying the sensuous smooth lines of this little beauty.

This one appears to be in very good nick, and has had the same owner for 15 years. It’s got a classified price of £2,495.

 

Lambretta Trailer Bar

It’s a totally unique hand-built “party trailer”, based on a jet ski trailer, which can be towed by a Lambretta. It’s got working electrics, including indicators, and a fully functioning bar, lights, stereo witch run off the mains or a 12v battery.
