Always look on the bright side of life…

Although I’m rather cheesed off about my scooter, I’m reminded that things could always be worse, it could have been nicked, or this could have happened to it. At least that lovely S°1 (as they write it in Italy) got a proper Viking send off.

A scooter with a fringe on top

I can’t seem to get the video to embed from the Britsih Pathé site, but it’s worth clicking through to see the clip. A Great bit of social history from the nifty fifties… a Series I / tent combo. Ideal for rallies, and “so simple even a woman can put it up” Another one found via ScooterDiva. And if a tent is a bit downmarket for you, check out this link for the next level of scooter camping comfort.

A Love Song to the Lambretta

Unfortunately my Italian is limited to Ciao, espresso and tagliattelle, because I’s love to know what these guys are singing about. One thing that comes across is it is a musical tribute to the worlds finest motor scooter!
Any Italian speakers want to send me a translation of the lyric?

I posted about Lambretta Evolution’s Scomadi auto conversion a while ago, fantastic scooters… but not the only game in town. When you start talking about auto Lambretta a couple of other names keep coming up… one is Dave Briggs (maybe feature his work later), and another is that of Sean Walker, of Fattspeed fame. More of a creator of one off masterpieces than a range of next generation Lambretta’s Shauns work is simply stunning… some of the nicest Lambretta’s I’ve ever seen, bar none.

There’s a Fattspeed blog here, although it hasn’t been updated for a while.

The star of Rock and Chips

Jamesbuckleyjessashworth-rockc

Don’t know if you caught Rock and Chips (a prequel to Only Fools and Horses) by the late, great John Sullivan. To be honest, I think it’s a bit hit and miss, comedy wise. The star of the show is supposed to be James Buckley as a young Del Boy, but for my money it’s his lovely Series 1 Lambretta.

There’s a few great shots of Del and his mates off to Brighton on an assortment of Series 1 and 2’s.  Unfortunately Rock and Chips isn’t available on  iPlayer for some reason (probably because the BBC want to flog us a box set!) but here’s a link to the BBC’s page.
I got the photo’s off f the Zimbio site. Quite fancy a set of those horns myself…

Duffy

Welsh songstress Duffy gets a bit of glamour into her video… a rather nice Series 1 at 56 seconds in!
