So… the US President has been in touch with the Lambrettista blog!

Nope, not the Donald… Peter Lundgren, President of the Lambretta Club USA. He was letting me know that they’ve re-vamped the website, adding a ton of new content.

It’s a fantastic resource  for enthusiasts (not just in US) as they’ve collected and compiled numerous original Lambretta parts manuals, service manuals, owners manuals and miscellaneous original Lambretta related documents and scanned them to make them available through the site. At the moment, only a fraction of they’ve scanned is up on the site, but  what is there is gold dust for Lambretta owners. Their primary focus is on machines not covered within Stickies manual, so if you have an early machine, it’s well worth checking out.

I’m happy to say I’ve got Lambrettisti from all around the globe reading, and getting in touch with the blog – This is only a hobby for me, so it really makes my day when you do. The love for the Lambretta is truly worldwide, and unites us all.

It goes without saying, if you’re in the US, joining the LCUSA is a no-brainer!

SLUK Launch Date Set

So, the latest missive from Sticky and the gang gives a little more information about Project SLUK… recently revealed to stand for ScooterLab UK…

Just to clarify, this isn’t something I’m involved in, I just think it’s good to see the Scooter media in such a healthy state. The Lambrettista blog will continue, as I see it as a very different beast from SLUK, although there is obviously some ‘cross-over’.

So over to the latest news from SLUK;

Launch date
We’ve tentatively set the website launch date for Monday March 7th.
SLUK email subscribers are the first to know about our launch date, so spread the word.

ScooterLab.UK is an online magazine, run by scooterists, for scooterists. With a website we have enormous flexibility about how SLUK will grow and evolve. We want your input on what you’d like to see, particularly if you have a good feature idea or want to get involved. We need road going scooter riders to support us and help wherever possible.

What’s the SLUKing format?
 SLUK is going to be a split format website covering the whole scooter market. At the entrance you can choose one door for retro scooters or another for modern. There will be a cross-over of some features across both sides of the site.

The great thing about what we are doing is that we can make the rules up as we go, so SLUK will have a weekly format. Sunday will be the big day for us, with scheduled release of our major articles. We can’t wait to show you.
Do I have to pay to view?
 No.
ScooterLab’s content is free to view and supported by relevant advertising. You don’t even have to sign-up to view but there are a raft of benefits if you join the party.

So, there’s been a bit of a buzz around ‘something’ called SLUK – all was revealed today at Scooterist Meltdown by Martin ‘Sticky’ Round… well-known scooter expert,  journalist and adventurer…

How about if we told you that the price for all this is FREE?

If that sounds like a good deal then you need SLUK.

I’d just like to give a personal nod to Sticky, I’ve been thoroughly entertained by his writing for Scootering over the years, and he’s even made me smile when reading his “Complete Spanners Guide” how many workshop manuals do that? He’s been a friend to the blog, and I wish him and the team every success in their new venture!

I stumbled across a new website that just might get you out of a hole… Lambretta Helpline.com. It’s a subscription based service that will cost you £9.99 for three months membership. During that three months, you can ask a maximum of 25 questions, and get a direct, one-to-one answer from a Lambretta expert on any Lambretta maintenance, servicing fault finding, repairs or buying a Lambretta.Screen Shot 2014-08-19 at 08.02.43

When I say Lambretta experts, the guys behind Lambretta Helpline have  been involved in the Lambretta industry for thirty years, restoring, customising and building Lambretta’s for clients worldwide. They’ve run a race team. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share. So you know they knw what they’e talking about. You’ll get detailed explanations to your question asked, with pictures where available.

But, you can’t keep asking the same old people, feels like ‘taking the piss’ sometimes. If you are a member of the LCGB, their member forums are great for answering questions, but sometimes you can wait a while for a response and sometimes the answers assume a certain level of Lambretta nous, and you don’t want to look a total knob on the forum (not a problem for me, I’m sure that’s how I usually come across!). Then there’s always Stickys Manual

Anyways,  I initially thought that £9.99 was a bit steep, but then I thought about when I might use it. When I needed it. Before, or during tackling a job.
