Well, not your actual Rolls Royce motor car. But a rather nicely restored Heinkel Tourist scooter… (or motorroller as our Teutonic friends would have it… so I guess it’s a Roller of sorts) was originally marketed as the “Rolls Royce of Scooters”. Naturally, it’s not quite as “pretty” as a Lammy… but it has got a voluptuous attractiveness all of it’s own. And like the seller says “very nice machines to own and run, and they are a bit different” It’s got a classified price of a fiver under £4k, which is a lot of scooter for your buck. Double Bubble

I’ve got a bit of a thing for microcars, or ‘bubble’ cars if you will. You may have spotted a couple of posts, spread through blog. It’s a bit of an odd fixation…but I suppose I look upon bubble cars pretty much like the Germans do when they call them Kabinenroller – which translates as “Cabin Scooters” …and that’s pretty much how I see them, rather than cars, scooters with roofs. And when my waterproofs are leaking (again) they seem eminently sensible!
Anyway… there’s the usual suspects of Messerschmitts and Isettas, which are probably the best known of the bunch (The Lambretta & Vespa of the microcar world, if you will), but, as with scooters, there are a whole bunch of lesser known marques… including the next rank, Heinkels, Subarus (Post coming soon on these) and even one from Piaggio, the Vespa 400. One I had never come across before though is this Greek bubble… (hence the Double Bubble title for those of you who know their CRS).
It’s called a Attica 200, and was produced in Greece from 1968 to 1971, with a fair degree of success in the greek home market. To my mind it’s got some nice lines, kind of like the offspring of a Heinkel Trojan and an old Saab 93. Which is a good thing. Should you wish to know more, Wikipedia provides a few facts as usual, I won’t trouble you with them here. I will give a shout out to the excellent Sake Racers blog, where I found the image originally, and just to get things back on track, here’s a link to the Lambretta Club Hellas, our Lambretta riding friends in sunny Greece. Ultimate oddball scooter collection up for grabs…
We’ve all been there, garageful of scooters (I wish!) and a nagging missus… when you going to get rid of those bloody things… you never ride all of them… Well one guy (it’s got to be a bloke really) is selling his collection of Scoots and Microcars on eBay. 47 of them. That rather puts the Lambretta collection I posted previously fade into insignificance.
There’s a huge collection of what I, rather patriosingly, call “oddballs”… everything from Bernadet’s to Zundapps, and everything inbetween. Well, nearly everything… there are a couple of famous marques, notably Lambretta and V*spa, missing from this collection. I bet a) he doesn’t like V*spa’s, and b) he’s keeping his Lambrettas :). (Although there is an NSU Lambretta in the mix) Many of the scoots are sidecar combinations and/or trailers. There are even a couple of microcars in the mix, a Goggomobile Coupé and a Goggo Limousine. I’m uncertain as to what a Goggo Limousine is (although I’m guessing limousine is probably overegging it somewhat), but a Goggo Coupé is one of the prettiest microcars made, in my ever so humble.
So if you fancy a Czeta 502, a IWL Berlin, a Maicoletta or MV Augusta… or one of the 43 other scoots, stick your bids in here. There’s a fairly decent British contingent in there; a brace of Triumphs, a Velocette and Osa. You’ll need fairly deep pockets though, as it’s currently sitting at € 46,000 Update: it’s up to € 52,000 and I don’t think that’s STILL anywhere near the reserve. And no, he doesn’t want to split them.
I reckon this lot will be snapped up by a transport museum somewhere… probably in the states.
