Peugeot S57 or Lambretta MS?

1955_peugeot_20Yesterday’s post about the Deus Derny reminded me of a particular Lambretta, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. Then it came to me, it’s the Brasilian ‘factory cutdown’ Lambretta MS (The MS allegedly stood for Mini Skirt – how Brasilian is that!). So I found some pics of a rather lovely (from the back, anyway) Peugeot S57 and an equally lovely Lambretta MS. I’ll leave it to you to decide which has influenced (perhaps unconsciously ) the Derny more…

Retro Style custom scooter style build
from Deus Ex Machina

LEDERNY_STUDIO-17I’ve followed the Deus Ex Machina guys for a while, loving their café racer style motorcycle builds. To my knowledge, this is the first time they’ve done a scooter.
Ostensibly as a bike support vehicle, but a pretty cool build in its own right.

It’s based on the retro-styled Peugeot Django, and influenced by the Peugeot’s S57 from the fifties*, and, I would suggest, a large dose of classic Lambretta styling. They’ve (wisely in my opinion) ignored the rather er, ‘functional’ (ok, ugly) front end of the S57 and gone for something more traditionally scooter like. And they’ve come up with something rather wonderful. Read more on the Deus site.

LEDERNY_STUDIO-14When choosing a scoot, I’d always go for a classic geared Lammie, but as modern scooters go, I think this (and I know is not a fair comparison, a custom build against a production scooter) gives Scomadi a run for it’s money.

*Funnily enough, as these things work out, there’s a Peugeot S57 for sale (it bits) over on eBay at the moment, if you fancy a bit of a challenge. Here's the link.

Afrophenia 2015

2015-09-20 14.38.14Port Elizabeth to Capetown on Classic Scooters

Jim from the Lambretta club of South Africa sent through some fantastic pics of their 2015 Afrophenia 2015 tour, which took place in September last year.

The route took them from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town, going through Jeffreys Bay,
Knysna, Oudtshoorn, Barrydale, Hermanus, Stellenbosch and finally Cape Town.

In total 11 scooters started the trip, 3 Lambretta’s and 8 Vespa’s plus back
up vehicle and scoot.

The Lambretta’s were:

TV 175 S2 – Green and chrome – owner Jim
TV 175 S2 – light blue – owner Derry
TV200 – blue and white – owner Carlos

Afrophenia 2015 RouteThe distance covered was approximately 700 miles or 1200 km’s, over a ‘leisurely’ 9 days… an epic trip, with awesome scenery, great mates and memories that will last forever. The pictures and video will give you some idea of what they experienced.

What the SLUK is going on?

12548841_217220165285086_1723976991621773571_nHints are being dropped on Facebook and elsewhere on t’internet about something called SLUK. Word reached Lambrettista towers that there’s a name that will be familiar to pretty much everybody involved. Apparently there’s a big reveal at Scooterist Meltdown in Germany on the 12th.

Actually, I do know a little more, but I’ve been sworn to secrecy. 😉

Stay tuned. When I can tell you more, I will. In the meantime, here’s their Facebook page, with some exclusive Lambretta product info.

Scootering’s New Website…

A fresh new look and lots of great content on Scootering’s new website, launched today.

Still a bunch of broken links on the “Clubs” page though guys. Better off going here, if I do say so myself.

The Testicle Run II – The Shootout!

10896966_10152478622697714_7098342677420174937_n

I wrote a couple of weeks back about The Breasticle Run, which is the sister event of this one… The Testiscle Run. And it’s not the first Testicle Run…

On the previous Testiticle run, a team of Lambretta enthusiasts took on a challenge in aid of Cancer is a C***! One scooter on the road at ALL times left Rainham in Kent, travelled to Landsend in Penzance, had a little detour across the Severn Bridge into Wales then up to John o Groats in returning to Rainham in Kent. Aiming to do it in 48hrs or less, they actually completed it in 56 hrs. Quite a feat I’m sure you’ll agree!

In 2016 the Lambretta riders riding same route, not only battling the clock (aiming to better their time!) but taking on a team of Vespa riders travelling in the opposite direction…

The age old argument “Which is the better scooter?” is about to be answered, once and for all.  The first team over the finish line obviously have far superior scooters and are much better riders… and it will obviously be the Lambrettas… won’t it?

It all kicks off on the 18th. On their Facebook page, you’ll hear all the news, read all the banter and follow the two teams progress around the UK. This is all being done to support various cancer related charities (detailed on the Facebook page) and needs all the support you can give it.

Here’s the Facebook page again.

Sew, now for something completely different.

Loved Quadrophenia? Check out this new film; Being

CaringNews of a new short film being shot in Brighton reached Lambrettista HQ the other day, this looks like its going to be a good one.  Scheduled for a 2017 release, Being is a new film featuring a couple of actors from the classic Quadrophenia, the film that a lot of scooter riders cite as ‘life changing’. The exciting thing about this film is that you can get involved with it through Kickstarter… more of that at the end of this post.

The story

Buddy is a young carer for his Mum who has multiple sclerosis. He struggles with his responsibilities at home and is bullied at school finding escape in a world of sixties music. He befriends an out of work actor, ‘Doley’ (Mark Wingett), who was in the movie Quadrophenia. The core of the film is the struggle carers face when looking after family members. It raises the question, in a lighthearted way, why in this day and age, carers and those they care for are still marginalised and made to feel like outsiders.

A nod to Quadrophenia

From original cast members and the Brighton location right down to the replicas of the scooters and clothing, Being has strong cultural references to the original Quadrophenia movie. Buddy and his mother Margaret share a love of sixties mod bands like The Who, The Kinks and The Animals.NodToTheMods

Who’s on board?

Director Devlin Crow has secured a stellar line-up of cast and crew, which includes Mark Wingett (Dave from Quadrophenia, one of my favourite characters) as well as Trevor Laird, (another of my favourite characters, Ferdy). Buddy is played by young actor Joshua Farley. There’s a strong team behind the camera too; cinematographer Tristan Oliver (Grand Budapest Hotel, Fantastic Mr Fox, The Wrong Trousers) and composer Barrington Pheloung (Inspector Morse, Lewis) backed up by an experienced film and television crew.

But they need your help…

The script has been written and many people have pledged their commitment to this project because of Devlin’s considerable charisma and his deep love for Kennedy, his wife who has MS. They do so in the knowledge that in Devlin’s hands this will be a moving and compelling work of art that will change peoples’ lives forever.

If you want to be part of this exciting film here’s what you do…

The Kickstarter* campaign will launch on 1st February 2016 and will run for 30 days. Their goal is to raise a minimum of £20,000. I’ll update this post with a link to the project when it launches, but I thought I’d get in early, to give my readers a ‘heads up’ on this very special project.

Beingfilm-Rewards Kickstarter Rewards

Here’s how it works: They set a funding goal (£20k). You make a pledge. You choose a level of donation that suits you and in return there will be some fabulous rewards. The rewards will be detailed on the Kickstarter page, but ere are a few examples of what you might expect to receive:

  • Devlin Crow original artwork
  • Credits in the film
  • Invitation to the premier
  • Be an extra for the day
  • Autographs from the actors
  • Watching one of the scenes of the film being shot
  • Lunch on one of the days of the shoot
  • Your own Lambretta being featured in the film
  • Invite to a party with the cast

Check out the website

This is only a taster of the project, there’s a lot more over on the official website, you can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

*Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform where people come together to make creative projects happen. When you back the project, you’ll be part of the journey to make the film happen. They’ve chosen Kickstarter because it is set up to help filmmakers like Devlin reach out to people like us, and they enjoy supporting Kickstarter projects themselves.

If for some bizarre reason you don’t own a copy of Quadrophenia,  You can get one on Amazon here

Lambretta trike for sale

WP_20160124_13_39_20_ProTwo wheels good, three wheels better?

I featured this funky trike on the blog a while back, when it was Ford Focus Orange… and  loved it then. Now she’s had a makeover, and she’s up for sale!

If you’re a rally goer, you’ve probably seen her, as she’s travelled to every major rally, including the IOW, and Kalkar in Germany, picking up over 30 trophies on the way. And she gets a lot of attention wherever she goes. She’s given the owner, and builder Brett has just given the engine a full rebuild (rockers/cam/piston/1mm

The trike’s owner, and builder Brett has just given the engine a full rebuild (rockers/cam/piston/1mm rebore) as she’s given him seven trouble free-years of scootering. He’s also replaced the front forks, wheel, and she’s got a new front tyre and calliper.

Despite all the miles the trike has been kept in tip-top condition, and she’s like new… and not just ‘under the hood’ (or should that be under the panels) the paintwork is in mint condition. After the £20k+ Brett spent building her, he wanted to keep her nice! what are you getting for your money (other than a true one-off of course)? She’s powered by a Honda 200cc TRXD semi-auto with 5 forward gears and reverse.

You could be her next owner

Now Brett wants her to go to a good home. So what are you getting for your money (other than a true one-off of course)? Well, she’s powered by a Honda 200cc TRXD semi-auto with 5 forward gears and reverse. She ‘sounds the bollox’ with double s/s pipes. and you’ll get a load of spare bits for the trike including rear tyres and Italian GP legshields. Brett wants £9,500 which is a deal, a steal, the sale of the century for a once in a lifetime chance to own a unique scoot. If you want any further info email him
