The Sun is shining (where I am, anyway!) and the forecast is good. The “scootering season” is kicking off in style. In what’s becoming a regular Friday feature, here’s a couple of fun things to do this weekend!

And don’t forget it’s Mother’s Day… so if you’re going out on your scooter on Sunday, maybe arrange a bunch of flowers for Mum, eh?

eca2e8_437321c4c6534400902839a97924f190~mv2_d_2048_1536_s_2I’ve posted about a Lambretta holiday before, notably about the Loco Wheels guys who do guided Lambretta tours of Mallorca (check out their website here). But if the Spanish mainland is more your thing, how about Andalucia?

Lambrettours do unique guided scooter tours in southern Spain. The tours are tailored to offer scooter and bike enthusiasts day trips or accommodation package scootering holidays touring and visiting the famous whitewashed villages of this Malaga region.

You ride a vintage Lambretta (see below for the collection) – through stunning scenery and quiet country roads, for a safe and memorable adventure that you’ll never forget.

Your guide will be Lambretta enthusiast Darren – who has owned, rebuilt and maintained various models over the last 3 decades. Darren moved to Spain early 2001 and has mapped the best routes of the region to show you what the area has to offer in terms of gastronomy, wine bodegas, historical towns and areas of outstanding beauty. What are you waiting for?

Warwickshire Scooter Alliance – Ride of Respect 2018

Ride of Respect 21st October 2018

And they just kept coming… What a turn out!

20It was a misty start to the day, but the sun soon started to shine for the hundreds of scooters that met at the Staffordshire Regiment Museum in Whittington to ride on mass to the National Memorial Arboretum, Tamworth. The Army of scooters, led by Paul Marshall (WSA Chairman) took a scenic route marshalled with precision to the NMA, and what a tremendous sight to behold. It is estimated that around 900 scooters attended, more than double of last year. Many, proudly displaying their ride of respect leg shields, flags etc.

The ceremony at the wall was very moving, led by David Whittall from the British Christian Scooterists Association and Andi Poole from AONSC and WSA. The sound of the last post played by Antonio Socci bounced off the walls giving people time to reflect on those who have lost their lives in past and present conflicts. Wreaths were then laid by various scooter clubs in deafening silence.

31.jpgMonies raised from the sale of patches, leg shields and collection buckets will be given to the National Memorial Arboretum, The Staffordshire Regiment Museum and Galanos House.

33Paul Marshall, who is the chairman of The Warwickshire Scooter Alliance would like to say a massive thank you to the NMA, The Staffordshire Regiment Museum, the WSA committee, the marshalls… you know who you are, and of course everyone that attended and made it such a huge success.

Smoke & Mirrors

Filmed over the August Bank Holiday in Brighton, England. Scooters decend on the iconic seafront, to pose, meet and reconnect. They dress sharp, ride some of the world’s best scooters and are committed to the scene. Two-stroke films were there, this is what they saw… Because they filmed it – rather well – you can see it too.

Istanbul Trip D

lambretta-johnmockett-dOne of my readers, John, sent me this fantastic pic of him on his Lambretta D150. He was getting it ready for a trip to Istanbul with 3 friends… another D’s and an LD with two-up. They stopped for a while
in Yugoslavia, and even took Franco era Spain in on the way back, stopping off in Barcelona.

“Ian then took off for Copenhagen, and then eventually I came home.
You just sat on the D150, and opened the throttle. It did 55 on the clock forever…
Barcelona to home in 2 and a half days. Rather different to today’s 2 wheeled tourists.”

Quite a trip… quite an adventure.

I love these period pics – if you’ve got something similar sitting in a drawer – wether you rode your Lambretta to Istanbul or just to work… I’d love to see them!

Lambretta Legend Cesare Battaglini

cesare_action2_lambrettista

Lambretta adventurer and legend Cesare Battaglini, who travelled160,000km round the world on his modified Lambretta in 1956, the greatest of many expeduitions on hs Lambretta. He continued riding his beloved Lambretta into his eighties, and was an active and revered part of the Lambretta scene right up to his death in 2011, at 84 years old. cesare_action_lambrettista

The story of Dr. Battaglini can be read over on the Lambretta Watches site, where their Cesare watch honours the great man.

The final rideout…

dsc00132We often don’t like to think about our own mortality, but there comes a time in your life when you start going to as many funerals as weddings. And we probably all know somebody in the scootering scene who has passed on, usually far too early.

dsc00119Although obviously sad affairs, the best funerals can be wonderful too, especially when you celebrate a life, and the passions of the deceased. What better way for someone that loved their scoots to make the final journey in a Lambretta powered hearse?

dsc00129To quote the websiteOur unique Scooter Hearse draws together an authentic Series 3 Lambretta professionally converted to a trike by a master coach builder, the same craftsman also fabricated the Hearse that is pulled behind. Beautifully combined this set up pays complete respect to the deceased, a person who had a love for the scooter, the scene that surrounds it, a scene that to those outside can sometimes seem extraordinary but for those in the know is something magical.”

Personally, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the life  of a scooterist. That number plate’s good too.

Afrophenia 2015

2015-09-20 14.38.14Port Elizabeth to Capetown on Classic Scooters

Jim from the Lambretta club of South Africa sent through some fantastic pics of their 2015 Afrophenia 2015 tour, which took place in September last year.

The route took them from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town, going through Jeffreys Bay,
Knysna, Oudtshoorn, Barrydale, Hermanus, Stellenbosch and finally Cape Town.

In total 11 scooters started the trip, 3 Lambretta’s and 8 Vespa’s plus back
up vehicle and scoot.

The Lambretta’s were:

TV 175 S2 – Green and chrome – owner Jim
TV 175 S2 – light blue – owner Derry
TV200 – blue and white – owner Carlos

Afrophenia 2015 RouteThe distance covered was approximately 700 miles or 1200 km’s, over a ‘leisurely’ 9 days… an epic trip, with awesome scenery, great mates and memories that will last forever. The pictures and video will give you some idea of what they experienced.

One for your diary… Feb 17 – 19th 2016: A number of themed fund-raising activities will take place, all centred around 4 ladies (of a certain age); riding geared Italian scooters, for roughly 1000 miles, over 3 days around the southern coast and counties of England to raise money for Cancer related charities.

South African Sunday Rideout

sundayAndy from the Lambretta Club of South Africa sent me this pic of their Jo’berg rideout. Nice to se a couple of S1’s. He kindly informed me that it was 33°C… And although it’s not too chilly here in the UK at the moment, I’d trade a few of our Winter days for a day or two of that!
