Nuova Lambretta

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything about the New Lambretta… The Vendetta, or V-Special as it is variously known. News has been a little thin on the ground, although I’ve spotted more than a few buzzing around. long term readers will know I’m more of a ‘classic’ man, but you’ve got to admit, if you’re in the market for a modern scooter, you won’t get a better looking one than a Lambretta… These images are from the Lambretta UK site.

You know that it’s being regarded as a ‘proper’ Lambretta when a company as well regarded as The Rimini Lambretta Centre gets involved – and, in the spirit of the great scooter dealers of the 60’s, makes a “Dealer Special” …and very nice it looks too. Check out their website, a must for all Lambretta fans,

Finally, for now, are some V-Specials in GP based paint, that seems to be an option for the Asian market only – for the time being at least. I’m sure there would be a great demand for them in the rest of the world too. I’m a particular fan of the grey. From the Nuova Lambretta Facebook page.

So, do you have a “Nuova Lambretta”? How are you getting on with it? Have you customised it? Got any pictures you want featured on the blog? Get in touch!

UPDATE: I’ve added a list of New Lambretta dealers (starting with the UK), here.

World first – Video evidence of an Electric Lambretta under development!

In another first for the Lambrettista Blog – here’s the first – leaked* videos of the New ELECTRIC Lambretta Vendetta!

It seems that Lambretta have teamed up with electric scooter pioneers (and Red Dot Design Award winners) NIU – There’s not a lot of data to share at the moment – although it’s rumoured that Token Hu – Vice president of NIU (and formerly of Frog Design and Microsoft) is heading up the project personally. I expect that as much as an electric powertrain they will be bringing their innovative Smart technology to the project.

I’ve posted a few times about electric vehicles (EV) on the blog before – and firmly believe they are the future of transportation – on two wheels or more. So, what you see here is truly the next generation of Lambretta – a brand that is going to be as relevant and innovative in the 21st century as the 20th. Exciting times!

This is the next step in  the evolution of the Lambretta. Remember where you saw it first! Stay tuned, and I’ll share more information when I can.

*Feel free to share – but please don’t ask where I got these videos – I have to protect my sources!

Vendetta Vids from Eicma

If you like your pictures a little more move-y, here’s a couple of short movies. I think the scoot in the Casa Performance Race Livery looks fantastic. If any of the models on the stand is going to win over a few of the sceptics, it’s that ‘un.

That’s it for now. I think the quality of ‘fit and finish’ on project Vendetta is becoming plain to see. More pics, with details of how you can get hold of one, and how much it’s going to cost you, coming soon.

Lambretta Vendetta, a few technical updates…

LambrettaVendetta_Display-1

A couple of things I’ve picked up on the new Lambretta Vendetta… here’s a close up of the LCD headlight display unit. Interesting to see the the Bluetooth icon, showing Bluetooth connectivity. There’s an App that comes with your new Lambretta too, apparently.

See the official specs below,

LAMBRETTA_cataloque5-S24

Headlight-1Lights; LED lights feature all round, including the indicators.

Engine Capacity; The Vendetta will come in three capacities, The V50, V125, and V200.

Brakes-1Brakes; The V50 has a  front disk brake, and a rear drum. The V125 disks front and rear with a combined braking system (CBS), and the V200 disks front and Rear with a Bosch ABS System.

Flex front mudguard; As with classic Lambrettas (since the LD and LC anyway) the Vendetta features a fixed front fender (or mudguard as we tend to call it in the UK). Except when it doesn’t. There is a ‘flex’ model on all capacities, with a turning front mudguard. For those who prefer a more ‘Spanish’ look I suppose :). One oddity is that the flex models are available in different colours to the standard ‘Specials’.

Storage; There’s a large luggage area under the seat, a luggage hog in front of the seat, and a glove box integrated into the legshields. I have also seen images showing traditional ‘sprint rack’ like rear carriers.

Chassis-1Metal, NOT Plastic. The chassis is STEEL bodywork, on a tubular frame. The side-panels are double-layered, with a 1.2mm steel middle beam that stretches to the sides in a ‘airplane profile architecture’. Make no mistake, this is a solid, premium METAL scooter.

Vendetta_SeatAttention to detail. The new Lambretta appears to have been finished to a very high standard. This is not a cheap and nasty scooter. Take the detailing on the seat, for example.

Pricing. To be announced. But I would expect it will be similar to a top of the range offering from Piaggio.

I’m sure more information will appear. In the meantime, check out the official website, here.

Lambretta Vendetta V200 Revealed…

Lambretta-V-Special-Scooter-1-1Just some (more) pics for the moment of the first, new, official model Lambretta since the 1970’s. (remember where you saw the first ‘unofficial’ pic folks!) I’m sure there are going to be lots of thoughts and opinions on this one… My initial reactions are that it’s obviously a modern scooter, not a slavish reproduction of a classic lambretta, but, like the reinventions of the Mini, and the Beetle for the 21st century, it includes enough ‘nods’ to the past to be clearly a Lambretta.

The lines are bold and sharp… it has an aggressive, no nonsense stance…that looks like it’s going fast even when standing still.

Electric Swallow, update

Schwalbe_Pose.jpgHere’s the latest on the electric Schwalbe scooter that I posted about a few days ago. This time the information is straight from the horse mouth, so it’ll be a little more accurate!

Schwalbe makes an electrifying return GOVECS presents the classic scooter in a contemporary design and with electric drivetrain

The Munich-based company GOVECS has given the Schwalbe a new lease of life and in doing so is inspiring the entire industry. Together with technology partner Bosch, GOVECS has installed the world’s most advanced drivetrain in the Schwalbe, ensuring streets that are both clean and quiet.

The first version of the Schwalbe will sprint through the streets at up to 45kmh. Fully charged, it provides an impressive range of more than 100 km, and can already be reserved online.

It still has the typical features of a Schwalbe: the large tires, the ribbed tail section, the round headlights and the indicator lights on the handlebars, but has become even more striking. The Schwalbe has just treated itself to a modern outfit. The pioneering electric drivetrain, developed together with technology partner Bosch, is extremely dynamic and convinces with impressive acceleration.

The five-metre-long integrated cable with a plug that packs away neatly under the seat, means it is ready to be charged at any time. It can be charged via any normal household outlet. And you don’t have to wait long before you can whizz off again: after just one to two hours the battery is 80% charged again, and after four to five hours it’s fully charged.

Riders can also look forward to the accompanying service, because it promises to be as modern and innovative as the product itself. There will be a comprehensive on-site service. This means the service comes to the customer and not vice versa. Initially, the Schwalbe can be bought through the official online store. Reservations for the first deliveries in summer 2017 can now be made online at www.myschwalbe.com. In early 2017 the first Schwalbe Store in Berlin will open, followed by others in various European cities.

There’s colour reminds me of something… oh yeah, here we go 🙂minion_guitar

For those eagerly waiting for news of the forthcoming New Lambretta, the Lambretta Vendetta, word reaches me that it will NOT be launched at EICMA in November, but prepare for something pretty special at next years Lambretta 70th Anniversary Celebrations / Lambretta Jamboree in Italy.

Want to see the new Lambretta Vendetta?

You’ll have to wait until EICMA!

Expectant Lambretta lovers may have been excited about todays date… we were due to learn  some more details about the new Lambretta Vendetta. The bad news is that hasn’t happened… the good news is the countdown for a reveal has been reset to EICMA 2016, The world’s biggest event dedicated to two-wheeled vehicles. Where is this event held? Milan. So, rather fittingly the new Lambretta will be revealed in it’s traditional home.

Screen Shot 2016-06-15 at 07.47.43The cynical will remain cynical. But I’ve heard good things on the grapevine about the Vendetta. Very good things. Things that will make the wait worthwhile. Rumours that the Vendetta is the true successor to the proud name of Lambretta. The way I look at is that if you’re in a Michellin starred restaurant, you don’t worry if the main course is a little late. Because you know the chef wants to make it perfect for you.  After all, the last official Lambretta model launched was the DL/GP in 1968* so a few more months won’t matter.

*OK pedants, I know there have been SIL models and Servetas since then, but I count those more as revisions of existing models 🙂
