2 Best Oddities… Skullduggery & Egyptian Swan

Skullduggery + Egyptian SwanCards on the table… I’ve said it before, and I’ll probably say it again. I’m not really into choppers. So I’ve ummed and ahhed about putting these two scoots in. They’ve been on eBay for a while, and the owner isn’t really bothered about selling them, unless he gets the right price. (£10k each) When you read the story that goes with them, you’ll understand why, and understand why I’ve written this post. Because, although I may not be into chops, I am into Lambrettas, a good story, passion, commitment and vision. And that is what it took Nipper to build ’em.Skullduggery2-1Skullduggery-2

If they tickle your fancy, or float your boat, you can buy Skullduggery on eBay here or Egyptian Swan here I won’t insult your intelligence by telling you which one’s which 🙂EgyptianSwan8EgyptianSwan1
Even if, like me, you don’t quite “get” the chopper thing, pop over to eBay and read Nippers story. You can’t help but admire the fella!

A couple of Starstreams…

Lambretta-Starstream
I’ve posted about the previously unloved J-Range Lambrettas that seem to be going under a bit of a resurgence recently. Remember that rather lovely original condition signwritten  J50  I posted a week or so ago? If you missed it, it’s here.

Well, the main problem with the J’s is speed. They’re just not very fast. And the J50 is clearly going to be the slowest of the lot. Now, you may say, if I wanted to go fast I wouldn’t get a Lambretta (tell that to the TS1 owners!), and there’s an element of truth in that, but in modern traffic, it’s just not safe too go too slow. The most rideable, and always the most desirable of the J’s was the 125cc “Starstream” version… you won’t exactly be braking the land speed record on one, but they are nippy enough to poodle around on.

I spotted a couple of rather nice examples for sale, a rather nice, well preserved blue one, with the original green log-book, available on On eBay here

The other is this rust free example, and Indonesian import, looks like it’s in ok nick, also on eBay, with a classified price of  £2,000, and the “make offer” option available.  On eBay here

Another lovely TV175, Series 2 – only 6,000 original miles

TV 175 Series 2

$_57-1

Used for two years from new, and then stored… this TV175 has only had one previous owner. It a cracking looking scoot… not fully loaded with accessories like the one I posted the other day, but showing off the original Lambretta lines to the fullest. To be honest, I’d ditch the rear crash bars, I don’t think they add anything, but each to their own. It’s a classified ad, and they want £7,500 for it.
On eBay, here.

Jolly nice J50 for sale…

1968 Lambretta J50 for Sale on eBayI love this little J50 I have discovered on eBay… looks like it’s in pretty good, original condition; the sign writing looks bang on, and contemporaneous with the scooter. I imagine it was originally a municipal vehicle for the Italian equivalent of the local council. Fantastic. Great patina… and no, that’s not a euphemism for “rusty as ••••” . In my opinion, the new owner would should keep this scooter exactly as it is… as a little piece of cultural history. Marvellous. all the details, and a few more pics on eBay.

Spiders even an arachnophobiac would love…

Spider 3 280510 resizedMost Lambrettisti know about the Innocenti Minis, which I have posted about before. Well, while Innocenti were making deals to manufacture British cars, they also had their eye on the blossoming Italian sportscar market. They wanted to make a small sport car, along the lines of the Frogeye Sprite… but thought that it’s rather distinctive look would not go down too well with Italian buyers. They commissioned Carrozzeria Ghia to design new bodywork based on the Sprite platform, but more to Italian tastes.

I think the results speak for themselves, a very elegant vehicle with shades of Triumph, Healy, MG, Alfa Romeo and even Ferrari about it, depending on the angle you look at it from. The Innocenti 950 Spider is a very handsome sports car.950 Spider (b) Spider just before doing Buttertubs resized

Innocenti Coupé
As well as the Spider there was also a Coupé version. Known as the Innocenti Coupé, or simply the Innocenti C, these had the larger 1098 engine. These little beauties are now extremely rare… with only 795 examples built… and all in one of the three colours of the italian flag. They were also pretty expensive at the time, due to their low production number, and the high quality, ‘hand-built’ finish.  At first glance, the Coupé seems like a Spider with a roof, but virtually all the body panels, including the bonnet, are completely different from the Spider. It is in fact a bigger car all round than the Spider, 4″ wider and 6″ longer. The width produces a roomier cabin, whilst the extra length is all between the rear edge of the door and the start of the rear wheel arch which proportions the car nicely, and helps give the Coupé it’s elegant ‘rear end’.

All four of the cars shown above, the Spider and three Coupés, make up the Collezione Innocenti. Further details of these four wonderful vehicles, including the various books and magazine articles they have appeared in, and the many concours d’élélegance competitions they have won are on the Collezione Innocenti website, here. And now, after many years in the same ownership this group of four unique cars, is for sale. Well, since I started typing this article, the red coupé has been sold, so if you’re interested, you’d better be quick. Email info@innocentispider.co.uk or call 01943 608900 for more information.

Flakey Framebreather

$_57MetalFlakey that is. I think this is what you’d call a ‘real bobby dazzler’ gold and copper metalflake on S1 Framebreather. Spotted this on beauty on eBay… it’s in just finished condition and got a Stage 4, 200cc engine in, so the performance won’t be a let down. I know this is a late 50’s scoot… but for me, it’s got a bit of a 70’s vibe about it. In a good way. If Brian Connolly rode a Lammy, it would look like this. A Sweet ride.$_57-4 $_57-2 $_57-3 $_57You like? Buy it on eBay here. Go on, treat yourself.
