Came across this tidy Scomadi in Staines, sorry Staines-upon-Thames, the other day.
It’s been tastefully modded to lower the back end, which gives it a much more traditional look, along with a number of performance upgrades. I had a brief chat with the owner, Mark, and it’s up for sale… he wants £2k for it (he’s spent over £3k on it). If you’re interested, drop him an email.
Word has reached Lambrettista Towers that the first 100 Limited Edition FP (First Production) TL200 Scooters have arrived at Scomadi HQ. The are being hand finished before being rolled out to the Scomadi dealer network over the next couple of weeks. If you fancy one though, I’m afraid you’re out of luck… this batch are all reserved for those that made a pledge via the Scomadi Crowd Funding Campaign. I’m sure more will follow shortly though!
uite?A bit of a scoop here, thanks to a reader, Mark, who spotted this on the official Lambretta brand website.

Remember, back in 2012, and then new Lambretta LN scooter? There was an ongoing battle between the so-called Lambretta Consortium and Motom, who produced the LN. As I’m sure you know the Consortium subsequently appear to have won the legal battle and the Lambretta revival turned out to be a very short lived affair. As an LN owner, I’ve always thought this was a great shame and, whilst it was never going to satisfy the purists, I thought that the LN deserved a chance to succeed – and not be strangled at birth.
Fast forward to November 2015 and there’s been a very interesting development over at the Lambretta Consortium’s website today regarding the prospect of another new Lambretta scooter. According to the website, this is due to be launched on 4th May 2016. See www.lambretta.com/scooters for more details.
As always lots of questions remain. For example: what will the new Lambretta look like? Will it bear any resemblance to the LN or even be a freshly produced LN? When will it be available to buy and how much will one cost? What size engines will the new Lambretta have? Will it be designed by Alessandro Tartarini? The teaser SX style headlight and the sketch below hint to something quite LN’ish to me…
On that official Lambretta brand website is a countdown calendar (I’ve pasted in a screenshot of it above), and (according to my calculations anyway) it’s counting down to the 3rd of May, 2016. There’s also a reference to “L’70 Models” Intriguing!
Of course, there’s been a lot of water under the bridge since 2012, notably the launch of the Scomadi, and many Lambrettisti would consider one of these of more authentic lineage to an LN, or whatever a L’70 is going to be… but we’ll see, we’ll see.
So, watch this space, I’ll have a sniff around and see if I can come up with any juicy info. And if you hear anything on the grapevine, let me know!
I’ve read a couple of derogatory reports on the upcoming ( and upcoming fast ) Scomadi’s. They’re just cheap Chinese plastic autos. They’re a badge engineered Hanway – a Chinese manufacturer of mopeds, scooters and motorcycles… and one I’d never even heard of until recently. The pic above proves it… as does the Hanway website others showing the very familiar looking Hanway TL Models…
Well, not quite. It’s the other way round I suspect. The Scomadi scooters are the culmination of over ten years of development by PM Tuning and Lambretta Innovations… the result of many prototypes and hard work, to achieve the vision of a reliable modern scooter with traditional Lambretta styling. Starting off with built to order ‘specials’ Scomadi has now made the step to mass production, and the world being the way it is, to keep costs reasonable they have chosen to make the machines in China, partnering with Hanway. I’m guessing as part of the deal Hanway get to manufacture and sell the Scomadi under their own name in certain territories.
I understand that the Scomadi isn’t perfect. And it’s not my job to be a flagbearer for it. Perfect would be a innovative 2T engine that did 200 miles to the gallon, over 100mph, had a steel body, was made in Italy, and costing about £2k. But that aint ever going to happen. If you buy into the idea of a modern Lambretta the Scomadi is a pretty good effort.

If you didn’t want a Scomadi before seeing this video, you probably will after. The section where the Scomadi rides alongside the GP is genius, you can make a really good comparison between the two Marques, and see just how much GP DNA there is in the Scomadi bloodline. It sits a little higher than the Italian original, and lets be brutally honest, it’s not quite as stunningly beautiful, but it comes pretty close. I’m sold.

Full production of the eagerly awaited Scomadi Scooter range – the modern auto with classic Lambretta good looks – is well under way. Dealers are being appointed around the country and the range is being showcased at the prestigous INTERMOT Köln Motorcycle Show. Perhaps even more interesting in the long run are rumours of an Electric Scomadi doing the rounds, with a prototype on display at London Fashion Week. Keep up to date on the Scomadi Facebook page.

Over at eBay, there’s Scomadi “Number 22” for sale. Built by Frank Sanderson at Lambretta Innovations; it’s “smooth, powerful and reliable” and has head-turning custom paint by Fast Eddie at FEP.

Well there’s an update on the ScooterNova site. At the recent Morecambe Pre-Season Rally, PM Tuning held an open day at their shop, where a couple of Scomadi’s were on display, including a prototype of the forthcoming 50cc Turismo Leggera production model.
Scomadi are now transitioning from making a few one offs, to full scale production… with manufacturing in Asia. Regualr reader and Lambrettista corespondent Ian pointed me in the direction of this site… Hanway Motors, who are either producing the Scomadi for Lambretta Innovations, or ripping them off…
Anyway, it’s all good in my humble opinion, and I’m a classic Innocenti man. The Scomadi is a modern version of the Italian original, in the same way as a modern Vespa, and the modern Vespa clones (LML etc) encapsulate the spirit of older classic Vespas. Alongside the LN, it can only be good for the whole Lambretta scene.
