I posted about Lambretta Evolution’s Scomadi auto conversion a while ago, fantastic scooters… but not the only game in town. When you start talking about auto Lambretta a couple of other names keep coming up… one is Dave Briggs (maybe feature his work later), and another is that of Sean Walker, of Fattspeed fame. More of a creator of one off masterpieces than a range of next generation Lambretta’s Shauns work is simply stunning… some of the nicest Lambretta’s I’ve ever seen, bar none. 

There’s a Fattspeed blog here, although it hasn’t been updated for a while.

Lambretta LD Paper Model

Cut out and make your own Lambretta LD… found this over at the International Scooterist BBS one of there members  got it off of the Sydney City Scooter Club site.

Anyways, it makes a pretty cool model of a Lambretta LD. Well, the sharper eyed amongst you will have noticed the NSU branding, so technically, it’s a NSU Prima. But as the early Prima’s were officially licensed, ‘badge engineered’ (and somewhat improved in some opinions) Teutonic versions of the Lambretta LD we all know and love, I think it still counts as a Lammie.

The instructions are in German, but seriously, how hard can it be? Especially if you’ve ever taken a real one apart. If you do things by the book, there’s always Google translate!

LD BOGOF

Used to seeing BOGOF’s (Buy one, get one free) down at Tesco’s on cans of beans and the like, but here’s the opportunity to buy one classic Lamby and get another free.
I wish I had a spare Series 2… (actually, I wish I had a spare Series 1, I’ve got some plans drawn up for that… anybody got a straight wreck they want taken off their hands?)
Anyway back to the LD’s… here’s they are on eBay. Let me know if you buy ’em!

TC on an LD

Love this picture of the late, great Tony Curtis on an LD. That’s the actor Tony Curtis, not my good mate, the equally great, and thankfully not late Tony Curtis.
Who incidentally is also a Lambretta aficionado. Anyway, I’m getting sidetracked here, the main pint of this post is to find out what movie this picture was from… any film buff Lambretta lovers out there?
Answers in a postcard, or, and this is probably easier, in the comments.

UPDATE:

Checking the IMCDB (Internet Movie Car Database) I’ve found the film this still is from – a movie called “Paris – When It SIzzles” from 1964, a film I can’t believe I haven’t seen as it stars, amongst others; William Holden, Audrey Hepburn, Noël Coward, Marlene Dietrich and Frank Sinatra. It’s on my ‘to watch’ list!

There’s a selection of weird and wonderful scooters on eBay, from this fella. All of them look like they need a fair bit of work, and don’t come with any documents as they were barn finds. 

There’s a couple of LD’s in there, as well as a Vespa Sportique, a Triumph T10, a BSA Sunbeam (or it maybe a Triumph Tigress… they’re pretty much the same beast), a Jawa Manet, and a Manuhin Concorde. None of them are much money (at the moment anyway). If you fancy something different, and you’re handy with a spanner, you might be able to grab yourself a bargain.

Browsing eBay I came across this rather lovely LD… it seems to have an excellent provenance and has all the relevant documentation, including the original ‘buff’ logbook.

Again, not recommending this, caveat emptor and all that, and there are certainly cheaper LD’s out there, but this one’s a beaut. It’s o St Neots, which is in Cambridgeshire, apparently. It’s currently standing at £1,370, but is sure to go higher.

Going back in time slightly further, an electric start LD 150… starting at £1,800.

and right back… to almost the birth of the Lambretta, a Model D… these don’t come up too often…  classified ad price £4,7500.

If you’re after something slightly different, how about this lovely skinhead style skelly… tons of original style accessories, and it’s got most the original panels and bodywork, if you want to turn it back to a full framed scoot. Buy it now for £2,300 

A bit of a disclaimer… I don’t know any of these scooters – or sellers, I’m not making a penny from these, and I can’t vouch for the originality, legality, performance or anything else about these scoots. They just look good to me. I’m going to write a post on the best places to buy a scooter, other than eBay, so watch this space.
