modela_parrspeed_ebay_heroOnly manufactured from October 1947 until October 1948  this Model A an extremely rare model. According to records there was only 9669 ever produced, and they rarely come up for sale – especially in the UK. She has the correct frame and engine numbers and the engine turns over with good compression. Once fully restored (and tbh she looks pretty good fettle at the moment) this model can fetch over £13,000… so is worth the time and effort to take her back to her former glory. And, of course you’ll own the model that kicks off the whole Lambretta story. Of course, the best thing about the model A is this.

Dirty Diana…

Spotted this less than pristine Dürkopp Diana on eBay. It’s missing it’s seats and sidepanels, the engine is seized, and there’s no documents. But it IS cheap, (classified ad price of £795) and as soon as I saw it I though of a headline for a post, so I had to stick it up! The same fella is selling a Swallow Gadabout, NSU Prima, a Zundapp Bella and a Heinkel A0, all in a similar ‘restorable’ condition, so if Dürkopp is not your brand of choice, there are some others for you!

I was going to write a brief history of the Durkopp Diana scooters, but I couldn’t be more thorough than my online pal Tideous Ted, over on the Retrorambling blog. So, if you’re interested, just read this.

benelli_moped_ebay_heroFrom the ‘Not a Lambretta, but – files’…Spotted this cheeky little 50cc Benelli Monkey Bike on eBay. It’s not UK registered, but comes with a kosher sales invoice and a NOVA certificate. You’ll need a dating certificate from the Owners Club. The engine works. And it’s a not unreasonable £1,595.00 (classified ad price).

1968_sx_ebay_rtouched‘Original condition’ may be a synonym for a bit rough. Just as ‘patina’ has become a synonym for what I used to call an RAF scoot – Rusty as F••k. But IMHO there’s a lot to like about this SX. For a start it’s all there… (well as far as I can tell from the pics, barring the rear frame badge, which shouldn’t be a problem). The panels look like they’re a good snug fit. Of course it needs a bit of TLC. And the engine will need a tinker with. Ok, it’s not a 200, but it IS an SX, a genuine one, not an LI dressed up, and it’s not silly money. It’s not cheap… but at todays prices, £3,550.00 looks like pretty good value to me. You could go either way with this one, a ‘conserved restoration’ or a a full nut and bolt shiney shiney job. Your call.

Sidepanels on eBay

s2-olympicscisepanels-1Spotted these set of S2 sidepanels on eBay, painted up like the 1960 Rome Olympics scooters (see my post on them here). I don’t think they are off a genuine Rome Olympics scooter, the Lambretta logo is completely wrong for one thing, and the condition is a bit too good, but they’re “a bit of fun” as David Dickinson would say. They’d would look pretty good on the right scooter or even a garage wall… The seller is breaking a complete scoot (which I always think is a shame), so there are other matching bits, including a headset top. Check them out here.

 

Ultra rare Italian / Californian Scooter – The Rex Monaco

rexmonacoheroCame across this on Craigslist, a scooter I’d never heard of before… the Rex Monaco.

Aficionados of Italian scooters might spot that this is a Garelli Capri lookalike… in fact it’s a badge engineered scooter from Gabelli, sold under the Rex brand in the US. (a similar scooter was marketed as the Capri de Luxe in Italy and the Garelli Monaco in the UK).

This is a super-rare scoot – and while not as rare as this Maserati scooter – is possibly one of only 250 made – and it’s maybe the best example of the model that exists. For the $2,600 asking price you get not one, but four Rex Monacos. One complete and original, clean runner and three ‘parts’ scooters – enough to restore a second one.

Staines Skinhead Scomadi

It’s been tastefully modded to lower the back end, which gives it a much more traditional look, along with a number of performance upgrades. RallymasterRep-11I posted back in 2012 about a lovely Rallymaster Replica for sale on eBay… long gone of course, but check it out here if you want to see some pics. Well, here’s another one. (Click on each of the images in the mosaic to see them full size).

And if anything, it’s even better. Cracking looking scoot, and something a bit different to the multitude of TV / GT / SX Replicas peppering eBay these days. As with all these things, it’s the attention to detail that matters, and this scooter has that in spades. Although it’s not an original feature, I love the custom horn casing badge (you can see it in the first image). Lover-ly.

Jolly nice J

s-l1600-1This is probably one of the nicest J50’s out there*… A J 50 with a Casa 80 c upgrade. Restored to a high standard by Medway scooters with £7000 spent on her, including sourcing rare original accessories and having them restored to as new condition.

The list of rare accessories include Ulma twin legsheild trims , front fork covers, rear carrier seat passenger grab rail, megaphone exhaust , spare wheel legsheild carrier, horncast the list goes on… Everything has been rechromed by London chroming. She features a rare mph speedo upgrade (J50’s didn’t come with a speedo) 12-volt electrics and lighting upgrade.

I’m not normally the J range’s greatest fan, normally, but this one looks jolly nice. A small frame Lambretta you can be proud to be seen on. I got a bit of a jolt when I saw the price though… £5.5k used to be (and in my head still is) SX territory… but things move on!
